This blog is written with the perspective of over 38 years of experience participating in a wide breadth of wireless communications system development and implementation. My experience spans technologies and markets from deployment of traditional LMR system, through product management and technology strategy in the cellular market.

As Principal Consultant for Horden Technologies, I provide technical and procurement assistance to Public Safety and other critical users of wireless communications. In my previously position as Chief Consultant for a nationwide consulting firm, I led efforts in the design and analysis of systems ranging from local deployments to statewide networks for the public safety, education, healthcare, utility, and transportation markets.

My background includes technology strategy development and product management in Motorola’s cellular handset and automotive Telematics operations. Prior to that I was a member of the team that launched the first Nextel ESMR iDEN network in California and other west coast markets.. Additionally, I have been an EMT and Cardiac Rescue Technician, giving me a ‘behind the microphone’ appreciation of the critical nature of public safety field communications and shaping my ‘user first’ approach. The combination of these experiences allows me to provide a unique perspective on the application of wireless technologies to private and public systems, with a high degree of understanding of how users’ requirements are reflected in both system and product development.

I have been very active in the public safety communications industry, conducting numerous seminars at conferences in the United States and Canada. I am an active member of the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) serving on their Commercial Advisory Council, a board member of the Project 25 Technology Interest Group (PTIG), a Board Member of the Next Generation 9–1–1 Institute, and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Mission Critical Communications Magazine. I hold a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware, and an MBA from the University of California.
